<h4>Study # 1</p>
<p>How did we get into this relationship with God?</h4>
<p>The following verses will help you understand what God says is now true of your relationship with Him. After you read the verse, the question that follows will help you notice what that verse says.</p>
<p><span style="font-size: xx-small;"><em>(The little numbers in front of each sentence designate “verses” and is simply a numbering system created long ago to help Christians refer to specific sentences in the Bible.)</em></span></p>
<p><strong>John 1</strong><br />
12Yet to all who received Him [Jesus], to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God.</p>
<p>Q- How does a person become a child of God?<br />
<span style="font-size: xx-small;">You may type your answers here and print the lesson when you finish.</span></p>
<p><textarea cols="55" rows="4" name="textfield"></textarea></p>
<hr />You might think that you chose to believe in Jesus, much like choosing a car to buy or choosing a political viewpoint. But the following shows God’s involvement in your becoming a Christian.</p>
<p><strong>John 15</strong><br />
16You did not choose me, but I chose you&#8230;</p>
<p><strong>1 Corinthians 1</strong><br />
9God, who has called you into fellowship with his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, is faithful.</p>
<p><strong>Ephesians 1</strong><br />
4For He chose us in Him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in His sight. 5In love He predestined us to be adopted as His sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will.</p>
<p>Q- In verse 5, what was God’s motivation for choosing us?<br />
<textarea cols="55" rows="4" name="textfield2"></textarea></p>
<hr /><strong>Ephesians 2</strong><br />
4But because of His great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, 5made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions&#8211;it is by grace you have been saved.</p>
<p><strong>Colossians 1</strong><br />
13For He has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son He loves, 14in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.</p>
<p>Q- As you look at this verse, what four things has God has done for you?<br />
<textarea cols="55" rows="4" name="textfield3"></textarea></p>
<hr /><strong>Romans 5</strong><br />
9Since we have now been justified by His blood, how much more shall we be saved from God&#8217;s wrath through Him!</p>
<p>Q- When the Bible says that Jesus saved us, what did He save us from?<br />
<textarea cols="55" rows="4" name="textarea2"></textarea></p>
<hr /><strong>Ephesians 2</strong><br />
8For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith&#8211;and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God. 9not by works, so that no one can boast.</p>
<p>Q- Is it up to us to earn our salvation?<br />
<textarea cols="55" rows="4" name="textfield"></textarea></p>
<p>Q- Can anyone gain salvation by doing good things?<br />
<textarea cols="55" rows="4" name="textfield5"></textarea></p>
<hr />Conclusion: Summarize what these verses have said about God’s involvement in your becoming a Christian:</p>

<h4>Study #2</p>
<p>Will this relationship last?</h4>
<p><strong>John 1</strong><br />
12Yet to all who received Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God- 13children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband&#8217;s will, but born of God.</p>
<p>Q- At what moment did your new life begin?<br />
<textarea cols="55" rows="4" name="textarea"></textarea></p>
<hr /><strong>2 Corinthians 5</strong><br />
17Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!</p>
<p>Q- Once a person accepts Jesus into their life, according to verse 17, how different is their life now?<br />
<textarea cols="55" rows="4" name="textarea2"></textarea></p>
<hr /><strong>Ephesians 1</strong><br />
13And you also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. Having believed, you were marked in Him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit&#8230;</p>
<p><strong>2 Corinthians 1</strong><br />
22[He] set his seal of ownership on us, and put His Spirit in our hearts as a deposit&#8230;</p>
<p>Q- What did God give us when we accepted Christ? (The Bible clearly teaches there is only one God, yet in three “persons”&#8230;the Father, the Son (Jesus), the Holy Spirit.)<br />
<textarea cols="55" rows="4" name="textarea3"></textarea></p>
<hr /><strong>Hebrews 13</strong><br />
5 &#8230;God has said, &#8220;Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.&#8221;</p>
<p><a name="top0"> Reread this verse and insert your name in place of “you.” </a></p>
<p>Q- What does it mean to you that God promises that He will never fail you nor forsake you?<br />
<textarea cols="55" rows="4" name="textarea4"></textarea></p>
<hr /><strong>John 10</strong> – Jesus said:<br />
27My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. 28I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of my hand. 29My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father&#8217;s hand. 30I and the Father are one.</p>
<p>Q- Who keeps you secure in His hand?<br />
<textarea cols="55" rows="4" name="textarea10"></textarea></p>
<p>Q- In verse 28, what does Jesus say He gives us?<br />
<textarea cols="55" rows="4" name="textarea11"></textarea></p>
<hr /><strong>John 5</strong> – Jesus said:<br />
24I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes Him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life.</p>
<p><strong>1 John 5</strong><br />
11And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.12He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. 13I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.</p>
<p>Q- According to verse 11, how do we obtain eternal life?<br />
<textarea cols="55" rows="4" name="textarea6"></textarea></p>
<p>Q- Who has eternal life, according to verses 12 and 13?<br />
<textarea cols="55" rows="4" name="textarea7"></textarea></p>
<p>Q- Is it possible to have received Jesus, to personally believe in the Son and not have eternal life?<br />
<textarea cols="55" rows="4" name="textarea8"></textarea></p>
<p>For those who have yet to receive Jesus into their life, <a title="How to Know God Personally on EveryStudent.com" href="http://www.everystudent.com/features/gettingconnected.html">Knowing God Personally</a> explains how they can.</p>
<hr /><strong>Romans 8</strong><br />
38For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.</p>
<p>Conclusion: Summarize from all of these verses how you can know that your relationship with Jesus is secure.</p>

<img src="http://www.startingwithgod.com/images/orangedashline.gif" alt="" width="255" height="/" /></p>
</div>
<h4>Study #3</p>
<p>Sin and Its Effects</h4>
<p><strong>Romans 3</strong><br />
23For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24and are justified freely by His grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. 25God presented Him as a sacrifice of atonement, through faith in His blood. He did this to demonstrate His justice, because in His forbearance He had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished.</p>
<p>Q- According to verse 23, who sins?<br />
<textarea cols="55" rows="4" name="textarea0"></textarea></p>
<p>Q- Yet verse 24 says that God declares us not guilty. Why?<br />
<textarea cols="55" rows="4" name="textarea"></textarea></p>
<p>Q- Verse 25 – How are people made right with God?<br />
<textarea cols="55" rows="4" name="textarea2"></textarea></p>
<hr /><strong>Ephesians 1</strong><br />
7In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God&#8217;s grace.</p>
<p>Q- Are we forgiven because we stop sinning? <textarea cols="55" rows="4" name="textarea12"></textarea></p>
<hr /><strong>1 John 4</strong><br />
10This is love: not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.</p>
<p>Q- Why are we forgiven?<br />
<textarea cols="55" rows="4" name="textarea3"></textarea></p>
<hr /><strong>Romans 5</strong><br />
1Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ&#8230;</p>
<p>Q- Why do we have peace with God?<br />
<textarea cols="55" rows="4" name="textarea4"></textarea></p>
<hr />Yet we still sin, and God is aware of this.</p>
<p><strong>1 John 1</strong><br />
8If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 10If we claim we have not sinned, we make Him out to be a liar and His word has no place in our lives.</p>
<p>Q- What does God want us to do with our sins?<br />
<textarea cols="55" rows="4" name="textarea5"></textarea></p>
<p>Q- What two things will God do when we confess our sins to Him?<br />
<textarea cols="55" rows="4" name="textarea6"></textarea></p>
<p>Q- How does God feel about denial or downplaying our sins?<br />
<textarea cols="55" rows="4" name="textarea7"></textarea></p>
<hr /><strong>Hebrews 4</strong><br />
16Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.</p>
<p>Conclusion: Summarize what God wants us to do when we sin.<br />

<h4>Study #4</p>
<p>How God Builds His Character in Us</h4>
<p><strong>2 Corinthians 5</strong><br />
17Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!</p>
<p><strong>Galatians 5</strong><br />
16So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature. 17For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature. They are in conflict with each other, so that you do not do what you want.</p>
<p>Q- Before you became a Christian, you simply did what you wanted. But now, according to these verses, what kind of conflict will you now experience?<br />
<textarea cols="55" rows="4" name="textarea"></textarea></p>
<p>Q- According to verse 16, what are we to do?<br />
<textarea cols="55" rows="4" name="textarea2"></textarea></p>
<p>Q- And according to verse 16, if we do, what will be the outcome?<br />
<textarea cols="55" rows="4" name="textarea3"></textarea></p>
<hr /><strong>Galatians 5</strong><br />
19The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 2020idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.</p>
<p>Q- Does God intend for this lifestyle to be characteristic of our lives, now that Christ lives in us?<br />
<textarea cols="55" rows="4" name="textarea14"></textarea></p>
<hr /><strong>Romans 12</strong><br />
2Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God&#8217;s will is&#8211;His good, pleasing and perfect will.</p>
<p>Q- What does God want to do in your life?<br />
<textarea cols="55" rows="4" name="textarea4"></textarea></p>
<hr /><strong>2 Corinthians 3</strong><br />
17Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom&#8230;18And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord&#8217;s glory, are being transformed into His likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.</p>
<p>Q- What will happen as we allow the Holy Spirit to change our lives?<br />
<textarea cols="55" rows="4" name="textarea5"></textarea></p>
<hr /><strong>Galatians 5</strong><br />
22But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. 25Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.</p>
<p>Q- Instead of a life characterized by sin, what does God want to produce in our lives?<br />
<textarea cols="55" rows="4" name="textarea6"></textarea></p>
<p>Q- According to verse 25, how can these qualities become true in our lives?<br />
<textarea cols="55" rows="4" name="textarea7"></textarea></p>
<hr /><strong>Luke 6</strong> – Jesus said:<br />
47I will show you what he is like who comes to me and hears my words and puts them into practice. 48He is like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built.</p>
<p>Q- What three things does Jesus ask us to do?<br />
<textarea cols="55" rows="4" name="textarea8"></textarea></p>
<p>Q- And how would this change our lives?<br />
<textarea cols="55" rows="4" name="textarea9"></textarea></p>
<hr /><strong>John 15</strong> – Jesus said:<br />
4Remain in me, and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. 5I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.</p>
<p>Q- Jesus used the example of grapes growing on branches, connected to the main vine. As we seek to obey Jesus, according to verse 5, what produces the fruit (His qualities) in our lives?<br />
<textarea cols="55" rows="4" name="textarea10"></textarea></p>
<hr /><strong>2 Corinthians 3</strong><br />
18 and we&#8230;are being transformed&#8230;</p>
<p><strong>John 15</strong><br />
5 &#8230;apart from me you can do nothing.</p>
<p><strong>2 Corinthians 4</strong><br />
7 &#8230;this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us.</p>
<p>Q- According to these verses, who does God want us to rely on for change in our lives? Is it up to us to change ourselves?<br />
<textarea cols="55" rows="4" name="textarea12"></textarea></p>
<hr />Conclusion: Summarize what all these verses are saying about what God wants to produce in our lives and how He will do that.<br />
<textarea cols="55" rows="7" name="textarea11"></textarea></p>

<h4>Study #5</p>
<p>What is prayer all about?</h4>
<p><strong>Nahum 1</strong><br />
7The LORD is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in Him.</p>
<p>Q- What three things does this tell you about God’s character?<br />
<textarea cols="55" rows="4" name="textarea2"></textarea></p>
<p>Q- In light of that, what action does God want you to take?<br />
<textarea cols="55" rows="4" name="textarea"></textarea></p>
<hr /><strong>1 Peter 5</strong><br />
7Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.</p>
<p><strong>Philippians 4</strong><br />
4Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! 5Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. 6Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.</p>
<p>Q – What does God want us to do with our concerns?<br />
<textarea cols="55" rows="4" name="textarea3"></textarea></p>
<hr /><strong>1 Thessalonians 5</strong><br />
16Be joyful always; 17pray continually; 18give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God&#8217;s will for you in Christ Jesus.</p>
<p>Q- In what way do you think these three commands relate to each other?<br />
<textarea cols="55" rows="4" name="textarea4"></textarea></p>
<hr /><strong>1 John 5</strong><br />
14This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. 15And if we know that He hears us&#8211;whatever we ask&#8211;we know that we have what we asked of Him.</p>
<p>Q – What prayers does God answer?<br />
<textarea cols="55" rows="4" name="textarea5"></textarea></p>
<hr /><strong>Romans 8</strong><br />
26In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express. 27And He who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God&#8217;s will.</p>
<p>Q- How does the Holy Spirit help us in our prayers?<br />
<textarea cols="55" rows="4" name="textarea9"></textarea></p>
<hr /><strong>Hebrews 4</strong><br />
14Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess&#8230;16Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.</p>
<p><strong>1 Timothy 2</strong><br />
