Why Help People Know Jesus

by Marilyn Adamson, director of EveryStudent.com and StartingwithGod.com

Jesus has chosen YOU to be his. And hopefully, he’s given you a desire for others to know him. This might give you some motivation.

God has built in you a personality, skills, experiences that are unique to you, different from anyone else.

So God will work through your life to help others, in ways that are different from how God would work through my life.

For example, he led me to build EveryStudent.com. He’s not necessarily going to lead you to build a website.

Some believers are going to be stronger in prayer than others…more faithful in bringing nonbelievers before God, asking God to work in their lives, to bring them to him.

Others find themselves in opportunities to speak to lots of people on a regular basis. Others might sense God asking them to speak to one person on a bus, or a friend or family member.

Others are going to reach many through social media…WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter, etc.

Our role? Seek to follow God. Trust him. When he gives opportunity, say something that might draw others toward him.

Why? There are many reasons to help others know God. The Bible tells us…

People are lost. They don’t know where they are, and so they don’t know how to get to where they need to be.

They are blind. They are not able to see their lives clearly, or events in this world, or the needs of others.

They are slaves to sin. They feel the negative effects of their choices, but have no way, no understanding of how to become free.

They are without God or hope in this world. (Eph 2:12) They are on their own, disconnected from God, with only their very limited, flawed perspective on life, having no power greater than themselves to face life, no reason to have personal peace or hope.

Even some believers can struggle, if they don’t know what God says about himself and how he can be trusted in our lives. It is faith in God that brings peace. It is seeing his Word that removes blindness and gives God the opportunity to lead us by his light.

What God offers nonbelievers–that they need to know–remains true for us who belong to God.

“The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners…” (1Tim 1:15)

Jesus declared, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed…” (Luke 4:18)

“the Son of Man came to seek and save the lost.” (Luke 19:10)

“he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior…” (Titus 3:5,6)

“In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace which he lavished upon us…“ (Eph 1:7,8)

Let’s help others learn how they can know Jesus. We have great news to share with people. God offers us complete acceptance, forgiveness, eternal life with him. An intimate relationship where we can cast all our cares on him, hear from him, be taught and led by him, our compassionate Shepherd.

If you need ideas, ways to reach people, I’d encourage you to sign up for the series, “How to Talk about God” if you haven’t already done so. You would sign up here:
