How to Reach Atheists - An Easy Way

by Marilyn Adamson, director of EveryStudent.com and StartingwithGod.com

For any atheist in the world, I do not think they are rejecting God. But instead, they are rejecting a concept of God…and one that is false.

For example, they might have a relative suffering with cancer, and conclude that God is powerless or uncaring. Neither are true.

They might think that God demands a perfectly sinless lifestyle and they couldn’t believe in God, because they couldn’t live that way…too much pressure. Or they are too aware of their failures to think God would accept them.

I heard this from one person who wrote us at EveryStudent.com. She wrote:

“If your God exists, I wonder if he would care about me. I’ve done some pretty stupid stuff in my life. My thoughts are that he would look my way in disdain and complete and utter disappointment.”

Not all atheists are as hostile or argumentative as you might think. Many just want enough evidence for God that they can intelligently believe in him.

I wrote an email series for atheists/skeptics called, “The Spiritual Adventure Pack.” It’s 7 emails long, described here: https://www.everystudent.com/reasons-to-believe.html

If you’ve never signed up for it, feel free.

I want to share with you an email I received this week from a woman who signed up for it, whom I’ll call Carol. Here is some of what she wrote:

“Although you don’t know me I feel that you’ve taken my hand and led me on a very special journey these last few weeks.

I was fortunate that your websites were among the first I found when I began searching (both online and spiritually!). I’ve had both the Spiritual Adventure and Spiritual Starter kits now and have consumed a large portion of both websites.

I’m about to make a start on Skip the Stress and can’t wait!

Like you I am the kind of person who questions everything and I have a deep need to understand. I have found that by reading the information you provided I have been able to find answers to many of my questions. You have led me from complete denial of God’s existence to not just believing in Him but knowing that He is there.

The evidence you give to demonstrate His presence and power, and the life, death and resurrection of His son, Jesus Christ, was sufficient to convince this 33 year old, life-long atheist; not an easy challenge!

I have also followed your advice regarding how to read His Word and have been getting answers from Him ever since! I already feel a very strong connection with my faith and that my relationship with Him is solid through His Grace. This is in large part due to your tutelage, although admittedly God did most of the work for me! [I LOVE the last part of her sentence!]

Thank you again for all you have done for me and, I imagine, millions like me around the world who are querying their beliefs or seeking Him but are unsure how to go about it.

I wish you every happiness, you have given me so much.”

So…are there people in your life who might be atheists? Wouldn’t it be great to give them the opportunity to get THEIR questions answered?

You could post in Facebook or on Twitter something like:

Questions about whether God exists? Try this 7-part email series: The Spiritual Adventure Pack. It’s free. Life-long atheists are finding it helpful! Go here to get it: https://www.everystudent.com/reasons-to-believe.html

Sow broadly. I agree with Carol, there are probably millions of people (who are seeking God, but unsure how to go about it.
