Too Much on Your Mind?

by Marilyn Adamson, director of EveryStudent.com and StartingwithGod.com

You know those days when there is so much to think about, so much asking for your attention, so much flying through your brain?

Last week was one of those days for me. So I stopped and thought, "I wonder what God wants me to think about?"

I went to Colossians, chapter 1, and started making a list of what God might want me to think about, from his vantage point. One could read it as another to-do list. But that's not how I read it.

Instead, it struck me more like the time Mary and Martha were hosting Jesus and others for dinner. Martha was stressed by everything she had to do. Mary was sitting listening to Jesus....and Jesus commended Mary for the better choice.

So these words in Colossians 1:4-14 struck me as what God cares about, what really matters. Here you go…

faith in Christ Jesus
love for all the saints
knowing the hope laid up for you in heaven
knowing the gospel, the word of truth
the gospel is bearing fruit around the world
understand the grace of God in truth
live in spiritual wisdom and understanding
lead a life worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him
bear fruit in every good work
increase in the knowledge of God
rely on God's power for endurance & patience with joy
give thanks to the Father
you've been delivered from the dominion of darkness
you've been transferred to the kingdom of Jesus
you've received redemption, forgiveness of sins

So, as you get overly focused on stuff, on things in this world, be refreshed by God's perspective.
