Does God really love me?

It’s important to know that God loves you, and why he does. See what the Bible says about God’s great love for us…

You could insert your name in this title: “______- Loved by God.”

And the reason God loves us is not because we are serving him. Not because we are seeking to please him or be led by him. It’s easy to forget that. We can start believing that we’re super lovable because we’re telling others about Jesus, or because we pray or read the Bible or go to church, or _____. But this isn’t why God loves us.

The reason God loves us is because it is his nature to love. He is loving. Always. “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases.” Lamentations 3:22

We get to experience, become convinced of his love because we have a relationship with him. As we read the Bible and see descriptions of his love, we do not need to wonder, “Is that true about me?” It is true because of our faith in Jesus…

We are forgiven. Accepted. Under his grace. Clothed in the righteousness of Jesus. Adopted as his child. Sealed with the Holy Spirit. Recipients of eternal life, forever his.

Life is challenging. God’s love is a secure truth in the midst of an insecure world. He tells us over and over again throughout the Bible. As we face difficulties, Jesus asks us to believe that he is greater than what we face on earth (John 16:33) and he is able to take care of us.

“As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the Lord is flawless. He is a shield for all who take refuge in him.” Psalms 18:30

“Many are the woes of the wicked, but the Lord’s unfailing love surrounds the man who trusts in him.” Psalms 32:10

“Behold, the eye of the Lord is on those who fear him, on those who hope in his steadfast love.” Psalms 33:18

“How priceless is your unfailing Love! Both high and low among men find refuge in the shadow of your wings.” Psalms 36:7

“When I said, ‘My foot is slipping’ your love, O Lord, supported me.” Psalms 94:18

“I will bow down toward your holy temple and will praise your name for your love and your faithfulness…When I called, you answered me…Though the Lord is on high, he looks upon the lowly…The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me.” Psalms 138:2,3,6

I was in a situation about a week ago. Struggling over something I wanted to see accomplished that was not happening. I took a walk around a few city blocks, talking with God about it all. Weary at not seeing progress.

And I was reminded to leave it with God. As if God said, “I’ve got this one. Just let me act on it.”

Even if a PERSON said this to you, you’d be grateful. But we have the privilege of trusting GOD, who is unlimited in power, in knowing all the current details and future details. He knows what to do.

“His pleasure is not in the strength of the horse, nor his delight in the legs of a man; the Lord delights in those who fear him, who put their hope in his unfailing love.” Psalms 147:10,11

“I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore I have continued my faithfulness to you.” Jeremiah 31:3

In the garden, just before his crucifixion, Jesus prayed this: “I made known to them your name, and I will continue to make it known, that the love with which you have loved me may be in them, and I in them.” John 17:26

And earlier Jesus said, “he who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and manifest myself to him.” John 14:21

This was Jesus central message. We are called to believe in him, trust him, rely on his love.

“Let the beloved of the Lord rest secure in him, for he shields him all day long, and the one the Lord loves rests between his shoulders.” Deuteronomy 33:12

“The Lord God is with you, he is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice over you with singing.” Zephaniah 3:17

To know and be certain of God's love for you, you need to start a relationship with God, receive his forgiveness, and receive Jesus Christ into your life. This article will explain how: Knowing God Personally.
